  • Equipping the persecuted, reaching the lost: Southern students minister in South Asia

Equipping the persecuted, reaching the lost: Southern The nationals thronged around the Americans as they walked the streets. Others hung out of windows or pushed to the edge of rooftops to catch a glimpse of the foreigners and hear what they had to say.

What the Americans said -- in the Muslim-saturated community -- was Jesus Christ died for sinful men that they might repent and receive eternal life.

  • SBTS grad ministers in wake of Iowa floods

For one Southern Baptist Theological Seminary graduate, recent flooding in the Midwest proved that a steady diet of biblical truth is the best medicine for hurting people.

“I told the congregation the Sunday before the flood, ‘You’re in one of two camps. You are suffering, or you’re going to suffer. That’s true of everybody here,’” Eric Schumacher, pastor of Northbrook Baptist Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, said. “And I said, ‘And the reason that I preach to you on the difficult doctrines that the Bible contains is because one day you’re going to be suffering. And I want you to have a foundation to stand on.’”

In "Pull Up a Chair" (New Hope Publishers), Keene guides women through a 21-week group study of John’s Gospel. Each week participants read one chapter of John along with a brief study of the chapter and answer questions. Then participants meet together to discuss the study.

  • New NT Theology by SBTS prof centers on already/not yet of God’s Kingdom

It should be obvious that the main theme of the New Testament is God’s working out of redemption in Jesus Christ, but that central message is sometimes missing from biblical scholarship, Thomas R. Schreiner argues in his recently-released New Testament Theology.

The massive work New Testament Theology: Magnifying God in Christ (Baker) encompasses nearly 1,000 pages and unpacks the redemptive work of Christ and the inbreaking of God’s eternal kingdom with significant depth and detail. Schreiner serves as James Buchanan Harrison Professor of New Testament Interpretation and senior associate dean of the School of Theology at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
