News Worth Listening To

  • This article has been removed for security purposes.
North Korea (MNN) -- This article was not posted for security reasons.

  • Missionaries in Bhutan running into opposition
Bhutan (MNN) -- Next, despite new believers' testimonies of independently choosing to follow Christ, Bhutanese authorities oppose the Gospel For Asia ministry there. A GFA missionary now faces charges of forcibly converting people through the allurement of film. A local official tried to get the new Christians to sign a statement saying they would not tell others about Jesus anymore. They refused. Pray that the government authorities will come to Christ. Pray too that believers will stand firm in their faith.

  • Donations to Myanmar Bibles doubled
International (MNN) -- Every dollar donated by churches to send the New Testament to Myanmar will now be doubled. Tom McGregor of the World Bible Translation Center says a donor has offered to match the funds churches give to the project. "We had a donor with World Bible Translation Center that read the news and called us and said that he wanted to be actively involved with this. So he wants to provide a dollar-for-dollar match for every donation that churches send to that relief." 50,000 Easy-to-Read Burmese New Testaments are being printed in Sri Lanka and will be ready for distribution in a few weeks. Cyclone Nargis opened a short window of opportunity to spread the Gospel in Buddhist Myanmar, where ministries report thousands of people want copies of God's Word. "Some of the Buddhist monks over there have been requesting a copy of the Scriptures so they can read them and see what the Word of God says for their life." Each New Testament costs only two dollars, so every dollar your church donates will send one New Testament to believers all over Myanmar.

  • Training frontline pastors
International (MNN) -- Meanwhile, Global Advance trains thousands of pastors who risk their lives to spread the Gospel every year. Founder and president David Shibley says one village stoned an evangelist in Burkina Faso. "As Seogo lay there bleeding, he looked up at the mob and he said, 'If I die, my blood will only testify to you how Jesus loves you.'" Seogo survived and brought his family to live in that village, where ten percent of the people are now members of his church. In fact, Seogo's church has planted ten more churches in the area. "These are the kinds of men we serve, and it's an honor to lift them up and for once in their life for them to receive some of the appreciation and honor that I know that they're going to receive when they stand before the Lord." Frontline Shepherds Conferences give pastors training in basic theology and vision for growing the church in their country. Pray for God's protection for 50 more conferences to be held this year.

  • Ministry seeks growth in community transformation
Switzerland (MNN) -- And, CrossRoads is an international ministry strategy of The JESUS Film Project. The teams equip national Campus Crusade staff to generate community movements. CrossRoads provides tools and training, and using the JESUS film is central to illustrating how Jesus is the ultimate role model for character, provides power for living, and a hope for the future. Pray for the staff. Training is already underway, and a team will be looking at launching new outreach in Switzerland next month.
