Are you are searching for Christian Singles for love and friendship. A Christian dating service can introduce you to new friends who also practice Christianity. You will find that many Christian dating websites now provide reviews and ratings to help you make the right decision.

Disclaimer
Articles on this site express varying points of view, to encourage mature thinking on serious issues. The assumption is that you will want to study a controversial topic from various angles before you arrive at a conclusion, rather than simply believe what someone told you when you were impressionable! (So some stuff here is 'hot'. Proceed at your own risk!). See the Statement of Faith for John Mark Ministries' theological stance.

Welcome

Hi from Melbourne, Australia! Here's a site for pastors, ex-pastors, church leaders and their spouses - indeed thoughtful people in or out of the church, who want to think more maturely/critically about the Christian faith.

This is a large site, so regular visitors tend to start with the New Articles section. My latest writings can be found here and here, and in this blog is the story of the two most gorgeous little girls in the world :-)

Links to all my Blogs are here.

I'm looking forward to meeting many friends - old and new - in 2008, at the Australian National Seventh-Day Adventists' Pastors' Conference (February) and at various conferences, churches and men's and women's groups. I'm now a little more available to accept preaching and seminar commitments: feel free to email me.

If you'd like to make this your homepage, here's how. Your prayers and donations are always welcome - as are gifts of F W Boreham books, booklets, and memorabilia. You can purchase my books here. Note: I do not draw a stipend/salary: all donations (including those derived from your clicking on Google ads: thanks for doing that; but note I do not always agree with the theological stance of the Google-bot!) go to the Urban Neighbours of Hope Mission which works among the poor (Springvale & Noble Park, Victoria, Australia, and Bangkok, Thailand).

I have an e-list of friends to whom I send - about once a month - a guide to seminal articles on this site, plus other assorted news/wisdom/bits and pieces. Email me if you'd like to be added to this list (or taken off it).

Thanks to our webcrew - Matt, Bradley and Lawrence - for their help in developing/maintaining this site. (Sometimes I'm asked: 'How many 'hits' does the site get?' Answer: currently about 2.5 million a month; a better measure: about 6,000+ unique visitors each week-day, 4000 most days on weekends).

Shalom! Rowland Croucher

THE THREE KEYS TO ALL RELATIONSHIPS (A talk by Rowland Croucher to the Staff of World Vision Australia)

How are we supposed to relate to one another in a Christian organization like World Vision? One short answer: As Martin Luther put it: 'Act as Christs to each other' (or, conversely, treat others as if they were Jesus). Another: Learn to view one another as more than role-players (IT person, HR person, PA to an executive staff-member etc.). Don't let what *describes* someone/yourself *define* them. To paraphrase C S Lewis: we look around this room and see others with various roles, with whom we work, or see in the cafeteria... If we really understood who they were, created in God's image, we'd be tempted to fall down and worship *them*!

This morning I want to offer some thoughts on three aspects of relating Christianly to others. These three concepts underlie *all* relationships between humans, between humans and God, and even between humans and animals...

THE BEST BOOKS I'VE EVER READ (by Rowland Croucher)

My journey as a Christian, lover/husband, father, and pastor/teacher/ evangelist has covered different terrains during threescore and ten years. Here’s a rough chronological journey listing books that influenced me ‘at the time’. Remember, I’m not ‘back there’, stuck where-I-was. I was brought up in a ‘gentle fundamentalist’ church (Open or Plymouth Brethren) and I’m still ‘evangelical’ but now also somewhat ‘progressive’ and ‘catholic’, conservative about a few things but also radical, encouraging individual initiative but also committed to social justice, compassion and community. As Richard Rohr says in his latest book (Things Hidden: Scripture as Spirituality) we must incorporate - not reject - Torah/tradition, Prophetic/dissenting perspectives and Wisdom/mysticism – all of these - into a full and complete life of faith, hope and love... THE SHACK (Review by Rowland Croucher)

Religious books become best-sellers when they connect with our deep questions and tragic/meaningful experiences. Some become classics, others may be left behind with the detritus of literary or theological history.

Wm. Paul Young's The Shack (2007) is a best-seller (over 1 million copies by June 8, 2008, translation into 40-plus languages, and has knocked the 'Left Behind' and Rick Warren's Purpose-Driven books off a few perches) but probably won't be a classic. He's nowhere near the brilliance of apologists like Oxbridge don C S Lewis or Soren Kierkegaard.

But when many ordinary folks tell their friends 'You gotta read this' I think they have two questions in mind which Young is trying to answer:

* 'Where is God when tragedy crashes in on us, when the innocent suffer, when a "Great Sadness" overwhelms us?' (Theodicy) and

* 'What sense can we make of it all?' (Theology).
